Missing Model Number Tag UPDATED New Questions

I started work on a early 70s Ariens blower with a H60 Tecumseh. The model/serial tag is missing from the tractor but the bucket has a 910995 tag on it. Any way to narrow down the tractor so I can locate the appropriate IPL?

88 Craftsman II Trac-Plus 10/32 [wheeled conversion]
71 Ariens SnoThro 6/24 [Predator 6.5 repower]
72 Ariens SnoThro 6/24 with original Tecumseh H60
7? Ariens Tractor with rotary mower attachment [Tecumseh HSK100 repower]

Bucket model 910995 was probably used on every 24" machine in 1970, '71, '72 and '73. Which is a pretty big range.

The H60 engine narrows down the possibilities..
we can narrow it down even further..
please post the numbers on the Tecumseh engine tag, that will give us a year, and from there there should be only one or two model choices..

what does IPL mean?

Sorry for the obscure reference. IPL = illustrated Parts List. An abbreviation I often see when people are looking for parts listings on some of the other sites I frequent such as chainsaws, lawnmowers and snowmobiles. Parts manuals and micro-fiche are the old technologies you may have heard of, but since the internet it has evolved to a webpage address or downloadable file.

The tag on the engine reads Model: H60 75343J Serial: 1113R and if it helps the serial number of the bucket is 033577

Scot,

While scoping out your snowblower page, I see that the [7hp] 71 that you own is almost identical to mine [6hp] with the exception that my engine has the small white plastic fuel tank and is not equipped with the electric start. Mine also has the engagemnt handle under the hand grip like yours.

Thanks Deezl,
yep, Serial: 1113R says the engine was assembled at Tecumseh on "the 113th day of a year ending in 1".
Unfortunately Tecumseh never used 2-digit year codes, so "year ending in 1" could be 1961, 1971, 1981, 1991, or 2001.
In the case, with the context of the rest of the machine, we can be sure that it is definitely 1971.

So, 6HP in 1971 translates to only one possible model! Ariens snowblower model 910002.

Thank you for taking the time to help. Looks like the part I need is still available as an aftermarket part, so I am well on my way to returning this machine to service. Amazing how little it will take to get this 46 year old machine back on the snow.

Last night I was cleaning this machine and see a very faint area where the serial number may be stamped. I got out my magnifying glass and just can't make it out. I was tempted to wire brush it but I hate to remove any paint and cause any more rust. Since your ID of the model matches the parts illustration perfectly, I won't dig deeper.

Two new questions that don't appear to be addressed in the owners manual. First, have you ever seen these couplers worn to the point that they interlock and won't disengage when you turn the lever? Second, shouldn't the belt engagement lever lock into the hook on the blower engagement lever as an interlock?

Since I buried these so far down the thread and got no response, I'm going to try a new thread for these questions.
