ariens 924044 wont drive

ariens 924040 wont drive, just did a predator swap was working great used it for 10 minutes then went to put it away and have no drive. have a feeling platter bearing went out because there was a metallic clang noise that came from the drivetrain but there is also this orange plate the platter hub bolts to, is that supposed to hinge? i already checked friction wheel adjustments

Orange plate is supposed to be welded solid / rigid to the chassis. From the schematic for your model the whole drive plate moves towards the friction wheel, movement is made through the drive spindle housing. These can rust up from sitting, but there are two bearings in there that can go bad. Please note that they are LEFT handed threads on this assembly, and pay CAREFUL attention to washers and spacers, if assembled incorrectly shaft will bind or lock up when you tighten final assembly.
Put machine in service position, drop lower pan plate, move left handle for drive engagement and see what moves. It should be the drive plate moving towards the friction wheel when lever is pulled.

Keep us posted on your progress.
