Ariens ST524 with tecumseh 5hp broken rod - repower pulley question

Ariens ST524 compact- original teumseh 5hp dual shaft with broken connecting rod) - idler pulley question
I'm thinking about replacing the engine with a honda clone 208cc/212cc single shaft but I have the wheel drive powered by the second shaft. I looked and I cannot reverse the friction disc b/c of the Ariens design. I have seen a youtube video (search old snapper 4220 dual shaft) where he used 2 idler pulleys to provide wheel power to reverse the rotation. However, the video doesn't show the snowblower in different speeds nor belt slippage. A few questions:
1) Has anyone in the forum tried this successfully?
2) What idler pulley size to use?

I'm not sure I want to install a new engine only to have problems the idler pulleys. Just picking your collective brain.
