Ariens520 2008

This little machine has been a beast and used hard, when it starts!

I've replaced 3 carbs over the years to get it running again.
Trying to start it now with the electric start it makes a terrible noise.
Pull start is not smooth.

Thinking about a HF predator replacement, I've seen done on here.

What modifications would I encounter?

I’ve got 2 520 blowers and are quite different from each other, However one has a twin pulley engine so before deciding on a new engine find out which yours has

Sno-Tek Modded, 15"X-Track tires (Now has same X-Track tires but 13"x4" for better fit), 254cc engine LED light and hand warmers.
Snapper 6/22 sold but not forgotten. Was my first.
Ariens ST1027LE workhorse and going strong.
New 2017 Ariens Deluxe completely rebuilt after losing a fight with a forklift.

I believe it is one pulley from engine.
HF Predator is 3/4 shaft

I'll tare it apart tomorrow.
If I can't get this tacumseh running.

I had the same trouble with a 520.Check the exhaust valve is closing fully at top dead center. I
had one that would not start.
It was the exhaust valve staying open.
I ground down the valve,it ran perfect after. The valve stretched after getting hot.
Check U tube for videos ,easy fix.
