pulley/belt brake

Replacement lining for my 1979, 924040 needs to be bent to fit on the shoe. It came flat new and is quite ridged. Do I need to heat it with hot gun, etc or can I just bend it?

I would not even worry about it. I have 1977 ST 724 924032 7 hp My brake is likely not even touching the pulley. Less strain on the engine and belts, only difference it takes a bit longer to coast down to be still.
