Ariens with ATC - skids or convert??

Found this forum when trying to find a solution to our hard to handle 2012 Ariens 921 Sno-Thrower. The automatic traction control feature is a nightmare on our gravel driveway. We get a rough workout every time we use it. Found this forum and read a couple of suggestions from readers...

1. to replace the skids with Armor skids or

2. get the auto-turn differential kit.

Would like some advice from other who have tried either of these two options. Armor skids are the most reasonable option price-wise but do they make that much difference?

Thanks in advance!

This may be worth a read:

I didn't realize there was a different system before AutoTurn. And AutoTurn itself can have some issues with handling, especially on gravel driveways (sometimes alleviated with ArmorSkids). I don't think I'd leap straight to that solution.

If it's the same system as my 1027 had, it just unlocks the left wheel with a lever so it will turn and be one wheel drive. I installed the auto turn kit and love it but only because the original system was unrepairable and needed a new axle so spent a little extra for auto turn. I however use it on a flat cement drive so can't comment of how well it would work for your driveway.

Sno-Tek Modded, 15"X-Track tires (Now has same X-Track tires but 13"x4" for better fit), 254cc engine LED light and hand warmers.
Snapper 6/22 sold but not forgotten. Was my first.
Ariens ST1027LE workhorse and going strong.
