Hi Mike and welcome to the forum. The "slightly" you speak of must be very slightly because of the gearbox bracing between the gearbox housing and the auger housing cannot allow too much movement.

The bracing for the gearbox to bucket housing has slotted openings for the cross brace to main brace and at the bucket. So if the bracing is not adjusted correctly then there will be pressure on the gearbox and augers laterally and vertically. Such misalignment would show movement at the gearbox. My machine does not have any movement.

You can check for any lateral misalignment by removing the shear bolts from both augers and ensure the holes in auger match up with those in the shafts. There is some lateral movement of the shaft through the gearbox so ensure that is equally distributed. If there is pressure on the gearbox through the bracing then the holes may not align perfectly, and need adjustment. If the holes do align perfectly then the lateral and vertical alignment are probably within tolerance and you are good to go.

So if the alignment is not good adjust mounting of 2 part brace and brace to bucket for a perfect match but do not tighten the bolts. The vertical alignment is dependent on same slotted mountings so you need to ensure the augers are perfectly level through the gearbox. This means supporting the gearbox while checking and adjusting for level. Tighten all the bolts. After greasing the zerks and spinning the augers to spread the grease. Replace the auger shear bolts.

Good luck.

Neighbor wrapped an extension cord around the ribbons of his husky blower. Bent one or both of the shafts a little and his gearbox goes up and down with the bends. Granted his husky does not have bracing but the other neighbor said he never hit anything with his but his husky gearbox does the same thing and moves a little bit as the ribbons rotate. Both moved probably close to an inch total.
