Looks like a clean machine Jackmels! Hope your buddy gets as much mileage out of his new one as he did with this one!

I believe I'll eventually end-up with a slightly older twin-stick (teardrop bucket & cast-iron auger gearbox)...i always do a double-take when I see one for sale.

This is a 924040, just as DB Thought. I Dragged another twin stick 924026, Cast Gearbox w/differential down from out back to get running again. Will Post Pics later.

I love the twin sticks...especially the ones with the large wheels and tires!

Where is the differential?

I've seen on most 10,000 series Sno-Thro machines a knob inside the wheel hub. If the knob is disengaged then both wheels rotate independently but I think that only one of the wheels is actually driving the machine. As you know, engaging the knob locks both wheels together (both wheels driving).

I have an old 10M6 machine which does not have the knob.

Agreed.
Look inside the hub.
I had an older machine like this before. I think it's a 1/4 turn lock to get both wheels to spin.
My newer machines have a different pin setup to either turn or free-wheel either tire you chose.
I found I always leave it locked up. Pretty easy to slide around in the snow. A bit of a pain on dry pavement or in the garage but I'm still young enough.
Just be sure to lube up and/or use never-seize or grease periodically.

Good find!

Good save, Jack. Ariens only made one twin stick model in this configuration (8hp, large wheels, and no differential), so I could tell right away that is was a 924040 (my personal GX390-equipped Ariens was a 924040).
