10000 series belt cross reference

I'm fixing my neighbor's 10M5 because the local hardware shop tried to frighten her into buying a new machine. Well, joke's on them. It runs fine and I'm replacing the marginally worn wheel bushings and drive wheel.

Now for a belt. It's listed as 07204700 but can I just go get a 3/8 x 36 Napa FHP belt? I found a post here that listed an O'Reilly number but it was a 1/2", not 3/8".

Just go to Boston Lawnmower in Westboro on rt 9, and get an OEM. Less than $20

I pulled the cover and it's definitely a 3/8" belt. The engine pulley won't hold a 1/2" belt.

Ha. I, too am looking for a belt for my model 910962 Ariens (71-72 7hp sno-thro) and google is showing a cogged belt. The one I'm running is not cogged and is 3/8" in width. What is the wisdom from the solons of snow?

I checked my stock belts, I have 1/2” belt by 36 1/2” long for 10,000 series machines.
3/8” belts are only used on transmissions as far as I remember.
Who knows what previous owners used and changed.
I personally would not use a 3/8” belt on an auger, do not think it would last long.
Especially on an older machine that uses one belt for both drive & auger.

My unit S/N 910962.
I just ordered an Ariens brand replacement belt from Amazon for mine this afternoon.
They are sending a 3/8" by 35 1/2" Kevlar - Cogged
Mine are clearly 3/8" pulleys, as the belt fills the groove clear to the top as it should.
I hope Ariens hasn't made a mistake.

Don't know why I have these belts marked 10,000 series machines in my inventory. Possibly the 8 HP units had 1/2" belts ?? But i looked at a machine in my graveyard and it indeed had a 3/8" belt. Guess I haven't rebuilt one of those in a few years. Mostly I've been rebuilding 32" lately. After going through my whole pile of belts I did find a bunch of 3/8" by 35 1/2", which must be for the 10,000 series machines. Usually when I buy belts I mark them so ill remember. Sorry for the misinformation, sucks getting old...... thinking your right about something then finding out you made a mistake.
