Platinum 24 Sho HP?

Ok so i have the Platinum 24 Sho and I've read online that the 369cc engine with 17ft/lbs of torque is a 12 or 13hp engine. On the side of my engine is the serial number and mine starts with 18100H... Which means 10HP, is that right or all the dealers and websites are misinformed. Can someone shed some light on this or if you have the same engine let me know what the HP says on your block. Thanks.

HP = torque X 3600 / 5250

So if your motor is settled at 3600 RPM, your HP is 11.66

Yes i know thats the equation for HP but why does the serial number on the engine block indicate 10hp?

I think that the govt prohibits them from publishing hp ratings because mfgs were playing games with how they rated them. I have seen estimated that there are approximately 30ccs per hp, and 20 ccs per ft-lbs of torque, but that is just a rule of thumb.

Max torque is usually in the 2400 to 2800 RPM range.. so you would have to know what the torque is at a specified RPM..to figure your HP.
Also say at 3500 no load RPM the engine isn't doing anything..Once we start to load it the throttle opens...An engine may pull down 400 RPM before the throttle is fully open.. actually making your peak HP closer to 3200 due to the governor...but we have to know the torque at the RPM to figure the HP
You really can't pay much attention to HP numbers on these things.
Back in the old days they put em on a Dyno..No governor..and brought the speed up to 3600 RPM.Our engines don't operate under those conditions.
You an can make a rough guess of how much HP you are producing by finding your peak torque.Subract a touch as Our working speed is higher than peak torque.
Kawasaki still offers HP and torque graphs and others may with some digging...But remember don't pay much attention to 3600 RPM on those..as the governor is in the way for how we use them..the interest is more in the 3200 range...Who knows that 10hp could actually be honest while used in the real world.

Yes after contacting Ariens customer service, it is a 10HP engine, they even sent me a technical service manual via email for all their engines and specs on the 369cc engine is 10HP engine though alot of retailers/ dealers and websites list it as a 12hp or 13hp. The ariens 414cc is 12.5hp and 420cc is 13hp. Just for spec geeks like me...

Thumbs up to Ariens for using the HP figures we see as used/ and not on a Dyno without a governor
So if you used this engine to transfer material on a belt...count it as 10 HP.
I wonder if that is at 100 percent duty cycle..shoot em another message(just for spunk) and ask if the engine can be run 10 HP at 100 percent duty cycle
