Ariens Deluxe 28" attachment auto lock

Used to be when i held both handles and then let go of the attachment handle (auger) the auger would keep running so I could adjust my chute. Now it doesn't do that anymore and i need to keep both handles always engaged. What do i adjust to make it good again? Thanks for any suggestions. Bryan in NH.

I could be wrong, as I do not own the newer Ariens, mine are of the older design, but I thought it was a safety feature that when you release the auger control, it stops.

I am sure a heavy rubber band or some other bypass method will keep the auger engaged.

I may be that your dual handle interlock is not working. It allows the auger to continue operating as long as you continue to hold the traction (left) handle.

DUAL HANDLE INTERLOCK
Allows auger / impeller to rotate without holding attachment clutch lever continuously. Auger continues to turn until both clutch levers are released.

Look in the middle of the rod that connects both handles, they are 2 plastic interlocks that locks in when the traction handle is depressed and auger handle as well. It may be worn out or need some adjusting.

Attached is a pic of the auger interlock on my machine. Check that the spring is attached since it keeps the locking plate pulled into position. When the drive clutch is engaged the auger clutch handle moves the metal plate upward to engage the auger (right side plastic piece) lip and hold the auger clutch in place. The spring is important to the operation.
