1989 Ariens ST724 Starting Problems

I have a 1989 (I think) Ariens ST724 (7 hp Tecumseh), been a great snowblower when its needed, but this winter Ive had a few issues with the electric starter and now the recoil. In the past I have always used the electric starter and it worked great. I actually cant remember the last time I used the pull start. Anyway, now the electric starter won't engage. I took it off and it seems to be working fine, just spins and doesn't seem to engage with the gear inside. I tried tightening everything up, but that didnt do anything. So, I figured screw it, its 30 years old and I am not looking to throw a bunch of money into it, Ill use the pull start and now that wont engage either. I took off the recoil and it seems something has broke or is missing inside of the starter cup and so when I pull on the recoil and that spins it does not make connection with the inside of the starter cup so it won't spin. Not sure if that makes sense or not....I can post pictures if needed, but any ideas would be appreciated.

Welcome to SBF.
I've not had trouble with these problems you mention. Maybe try Youtube vids on Tecumseh recoil starter repair Etc.
