Ariens 910014 Auger Issue

Hi All,

My auger decided not to work this morning. I took the belt cover off and can clearly see the auger gear is not engaging with the flywheel. Googled this with no solution. I'm a noob at this stuff I'm assuming once the lever is turned the Auger gear is what extends and connects to flywheel? How does it extend? I do see a spring behind it, but even if I try to pry it towards the flywheel with screwdriver it won't budge.

Thanks for the help!!

The spring you see is supposed to make the clutch jaw pop back when it is disengaged. There is a corrosive buildup making it stick in its retracted position. Squirt some penetrating oil like pb blaster where it meets the shaft and let it set for a while. Give it a few taps with a hammer from time to time. It will free up. MH
