i got a chance to tear her down today, here are some pics, to make matters worse, when the augers presumably hit something, the power was presumably transferred to the engine causing it to throw a rod.

both failures were probably assisted by the thin black gasoline contaminated oil in the crankcase and some idiot filling the gearbox with grease

Wow. Simultaneous failure of connecting rod and gearbox!
Anyone ever heard of that before?
So which caused which?
Some gearboxes are supposed to have grease vs oil. I don't think the 10000 series did though.

i think the guy hit a brick or something and the force from hitting it ruined the gearbox, and the force from the impact was transferred to the engine and broke the rod, but thats just a theory. there was a lot of carbon buildup in the head of the poor little h70 and it fell into the cylinder and caused scoring, so even though the block had no holes in it it would require an oversize bore and rings, carburetor replacement, and a bunch of other stuff i dont want to deal with. the left side auger had a bolt in it and the right had a shear pin so thats probably what caused the failure. as you can see there is absolutely no usable portions of either gears left, if you know somebody who can source the two i would appreciate it

Amazing that the sudden stoppage of the impeller broke the connecting with a belt drive in between.
Perhaps someone took two bad parts and mounted them to together while they made themselves a good one.

the guy said he pulled the starter from it and thats it, the belt did look relatively new and had almost no slack.
