ariens 8526 doesnt blow
i found a Ariens 8526 on my local CL,asking $300 or best offer,it looks like its in very good shape,he says that needs a belt,he says the auger spins but doesnt throw..just wondering what you folks might think it is..i havent gone to look at it,its about 75 miles away,i dont want to travel that far if its not worth it.thanks for any advice..
if the auger spins and it doesn't blow that would mean probably the pins holding the impeller to the shaft are broken. That is pretty unusual. It could be the belt is real loose and starts slipping when it runs into the snow. It could also be bad gears in the front gearbox causing the same issue.
Please direct all snow blower questions to the forums and not to me with PMs.
a good way to tell if it the shear pins is to try and rotate the auger while watching the shaft ends that stick out of the right and left side of the auger housing. if the augers turn and the shafts are solid the center gear box is probable ok. cheap fix for about $10.00 to buy 4 new shear bolts. if the augers turn the shaft ends on each side of the housing then the center auger gear box is probably faulty, not so cheap fix probably $150-200. if it's a broken drive belt they are a simple realitively cheap repair and routine maintenance. $300 dollars if it's shear bolts and every thing else is in very good shape is a good buy. i would offer less though!
