New Compact 24 with tight/sqeaky chute rotation

This floor model at the H-D had something funky going on with it. I am assuming this is not normal because the Deluxe 28 next to it (with the ice drill) was like butter.

I wouldn't be able to comment because your video is set to private.

Something is either too tight or needs some grease!

Agreed.

One of the things added at assembly upon delivery is the chute and I believe it's advised to lubricate with grease the mating surfaces of the bottom of the chute and top of the auger housing. Looks like someone missed that detail, which isn't uncommon in the big box stores.

There's another example of why buying from a reputable, experienced power equipment dealer is preferred.

By me anyhow.

Can be fixed one of 2 ways.
  • 9/16" wrench to the underside and back off the loaded spring bolt 1 or 2 turns
  • little shot of lubricant to the underside area of the loaded spring

My deluxe 30 does the same, as shown in my videos. Fine line between lubricating it enough not to squeak yet still able to hold the chute position when loading it full of snow.

Personally I'm ok with some squeak which is not heard when the engine is running.

I just came back from HD and both a Deluxe 28 and one of the Compact 24's made the same squeaking noise like in the above video. These guys are missing something in assembly. The noise is definitely coming from the gear box attached to the Ice Drill and not from the bottom of the discharge shoot.

I looked at the assembly instructions online, the first instruction is to grease the discharge chute. "Grease underside of discharge chute ring. (if not already greased) Guess the big box boys figure it's greased or are all out of grease.
