Nice Ariens HD skids and looks to be in good shape. Might want to think of some x-tracs for it. Sweet deal !!

very nice!
I also own a 1971 Ariens 732!
Mine is half-restored..a member of this forum, Paul "X10StingRay", did a beautiful job
restoring the tractor portion:

I still plan to restore the bucket too..
This is my "backup" snowblower, in case my "main' snowblower, (an unrestored 1971 Ariens with a 24" bucket), should ever have difficulties when its called to duty.

I sometimes see, out on the internet, things like "I wouldn't want a wide bucket with a 7hp engine"..but I dont think that is as big a deal as people think..the 724 works just fine, no one questions that..but the 32" bucket is only 8" longer total, thats only 4" longer on a side..and! the augers dont take up the entire bucket width, there is space on the ends, and the auger takes up space in the middle..So in reality, the 32" bucket augers are maybe 2" longer on each side than the augers on the 24" bucket..is that *really* a big enough of a difference to cause a noticable performance concern between a 7hp engine on a 24" bucket versus a 7hp engine on a 32" bucket? I dont think so..

sure, there will be some added workload with the wider bucket, that's obvious..my question is, is it really noticeable? is the engine really "over-taxed" with the wider bucket to the point that performance is noticeable degraded? IMO, no, it isnt..

also, differences in the health of the engine probably outweigh the differences in the bucket width..you could have a "tired" engine on a 724 that makes the snowblower performs worse than the same model of engine that is "healthier" on a 732..ame with general snowblower condition, belts, maintenance, lubrication, etc..

I used both the 724 and the 732 last winter..I noticed no noticeable performance difference..

scot
