Upgrade tires on Airens 522?

Hey everyone. Just joined. I have an older Airens 522 that is just a snow eating monster, but lately it's been tough to push. I have no solid cement where I live; the driveway is dirt and gravel. I am thinking of installing some skids on the front on either side of the auger, which should make it glide easier over the rough ground, but I was also wondering if I could put some chunkier rubber tires on the thing, as opposed to the useless go cart tires it has now.

Here are some pics...

The tires are 7" in diameter, but I'm thinking I should be able to install a couple rubber/treaded tires up to 8". Of course I'll need a new shaft because this one is a bit bent on each side. Was just wanting to get some feedback about this idea.

Thanks!

I think I've found the skids that will work here: Ariens Snowblower Skid Shoe Set 2 Part 02483859 | eBay

Here's another pair somewhat cheaper: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Ariens-sno...-/300823695377

fancy tires arent gunna help with your dilemma. a new set of paddles may help, but snowslapper (ss) machines dont really like dirt/gravel. but anywho.....welcome to the forum !!

I wonder if something like the tires for the 2 wheel dollies might work. I know Harbor Freight has a decent selection of cheap wheels. Might not see much improvement though as was indicted above.

Please direct all snow blower questions to the forums and not to me with PMs.
