Crary Bear Cat 5/20

I have a Creary Bear Cat 5hp Tecumseh, runs at idle, stalls under light load, thinkin carb needs adjusting, any ideas would help. No model No#. Any idea on plug type, and gap.

I gap plugs at .032. (As a courtesy to classiccat, I had .035 as the gap by error, I added this later, I gap everything at .32 only because it's close enough to most specs, however if the gap is off by a lot it throws the ignition timing off and could cause not starting, backfiring. I've seen new mower plugs gapped at .050!!!

Could be a carb adjustment but also a dirty carb. Usually, not always, an indication of a dirty carb, you will need to keep some of the choke on when warmed.

Welcome to the forum!

I'd bet that it's due to compression loss...it may be due for a new head gasket &/or valve job.

All L-head tecumseh engines have a spark gap of 0.030" regardless of ignition type (standard point or solid state) (I believe JLawrence had a typo up there).

Make sure the governor is adjusted properly. If not it will die the second you hit the snow.

Here is my 1981 Super Rare 1028. The biggest Crary Bear Cat made . And she purr like a kitten and throws well over 40/60' Its Beast . Here is a link to listen to it purr.
