A lot of work for what benefit? To be able to change the auger speed? You can do this by changing the pulley size. Maybe it's a variable speed auger? More things tho go setting with out. If I did this, I would have done it with a much older machine in case it didn't work out.

1986 Ariens ST522, 5hp, 22"
1995 Murray Craftsman 10hp, 29" w. 12" impeller
A 1983 Real John Deere 10hp, 32" w. 12" impeller, 16" auger, 20" high front, cast iron gear box, chains
Noma 9hp, 27" w. 12" impeller
Noma 5hp, 24" w. 12" impeller, 20" high front
Gravely Convertible, 12hp Kohler cast iron, 26" width, 600 lbs of cast iron & steel, 2 speed impeller, 4 ground speeds
Dynamark 8hp, 26", 12" impeller, for sale
Several other 5hp, 8hp, several 2 cycle, all for sale

I dont understand this at all..
I cant tell what the modification is supposed to be doing.
I looked up the actual ad:

https://www.kijiji.ca/v-souffleuse-a...ationFlag=true

The english translation only says:

Biggest Ariens snow blower.
Ariens Polar Force 420CC Engine By Briggs And Stratton.
120 volt electric start with recoil backup.
200 Degree Turn Radius Quick Turn Chute
Single lever adjusts direction and height of snow stream
Handwarmers
Modified with an industrial gear box with heavy duty chains.

That doesnt explain it!

If it creates a variable speed auger..why?
why would anyone want or need that?
very strange..

Scot

He got rid of the auger belts and replaced with chains? Guess the mod didn't work as planned, maybe the reason for selling it? Mental genius.

Maybe he didn't have access to the dual belt mod and he was having a problem with it slipping on him constantly and burning up belts or he "ate" something that took out the auger gearbox and he had this gearbox laying around and decided to get creative ??

It just seems like way more work than what properly curing what might have been the problem would be.

Just trying to figure out how he thinks someone is going to spend 1,200 US on it ??

.

.
Make sure the windows are up before the snow plow goes by !!
