Where's all the Ariens?

I stopped in my local Lowes yesterday on my why home from work to get a can of fluid film, and when i walked up to the entrance,I noticed all the snowblowers lined up outside was just Troybilts..no Ariens,or Huskys...and when I went in I headed to the lawn and garden section, there was only a couple of Ariens on display, and one Husky pushed down a aisle, like it wasn't supposed to be displayed, but there was a bunch of troybilts displayed...I'm wondering if they are making a better profit on the Troybilts,so they are pushing them more, then the Ariens, and Huskys,or is it the Ariens and Huskys are a better seller..

I know they just had a sale on the Ariens Deluxe. I know of three people that bought one for 999.00. Also might be a storm coming your way. In my parts it is just going to be a rain ice mix. North of me is a different story.

Just a guess they may have had a small allotment of Ariens being the first year carrying them? Or, they're all basically the same price for the size within a couple hundred and people would rather have the Ariens.
Of course in todays retail world, the season's probably over and they'll be putting trimmers and fertilizer out on display. It's like trying to find winter boots in January. You have to wade through the flip flops and boat shoes.

Ariens, I believe, has stuck an exclusive deal with Home Depot as its "big box" retailer, i.e., Home Depot will not carry certain other brands (although they do and will continue to carry Toro). MTD, with its Troy-Bilt brand, now has an exclusive with Lowe's as its "big box" retailer; however, it's interesting to note that (at least for now) Ariens is not one of the brands excluded from Lowe's. Lots of marketing going on here, and there's big incentives for both manufacturers to steer their products and customers accordingly. You can bet that these manufacturers are giving sweetheart pricing deals to their respective retailers. MTD just wants to be part of the game, thus the big expansion of the Troy-Bilt brand. Time will tell if MTD can put itself on an equal playing field with Ariens, Toro, et al.

My local Lowe's has several Ariens and Husq's and a bunch of TB's no snow here yet and nothing forecast through next week but I did see someone buying a TB, I think, last week.

Tough to determine profit margins, nobody likes to talk about them or at least publish them to company outsiders. You would think margins are higher on MTD products than some of the other brands but we don't know for sure. I imagine most brands are profitable or they wouldn't be in business. The dealers/big boxes probably get bigger discounts based on sales volume and Lowes is a big seller of Troy Bilt OPE.

I see Ariens in the local Home Depots & Lowes stores in my area. I agree with what Abominable stated above regarding if MTD can be in the same league as the top names, they seem to be improving their offerings a bit.
