Turning auger by hand on a single stage? Honda HS720AA

How freely/easily should the auger turn by hand on a single stage machine like the HS720AA? Mine has a lot of drag. Seems like it should turn pretty easily when the drive belt is disengaged. I pulled the side cover off and the belt is slack and the auger clutch bar cable is adjusted exactly per the instructions. Thanks!

There will be resistance on the auger because of the brake arm resting on the drive pulley when the belt is slack. The paddles contacting the housing also adds resistance. This observation is based on my Toro single stage.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
