Tecumseh Parts Swap Between Engines

Hi Guys,

I have a 1987 Toro 521 with a 5hp Tecumseh.

I can get a 1987 3521 (3.5 hp tecumseh) Toro blower dirt cheap. It is rust free whereas my current one is pretty rusty. Hoping to swap parts on it. I know the body of the two blower are interchangeable but wondering about the different hp engines?

Wondering if the outer parts (muffler, heater box etc.) of a the 3.5 hp Tecumseh would fit my 5 hp Tecumseh?

Thanks for the help!

only parts that will swapn over is the recoil maybe e starter. i think the 3.5 engines use a diaphragm carb like the old toro s200s and s620s

Someone once gave me a Toro 3521 with a blown engine.I removed the carburetor because it was brand new,it was only used for about an hour before the con. rod left the block. It was not a diaphragm type, but the standard float type.

I honestly can't remember if the exterior engine parts were interchangeable with my 521 because I tossed the whole engine,But if you can buy the 3521 cheap, just get it.I've kicked myself many times for not saving more parts off that machine as new Toro parts in general are quite expensive and parts blowers are fairly rare in my area.

EDIT:I went to Ereplacement Parts and looked up a 38035(3521) from 1988 serial number range(random choice) and there are a number of differences between the 3.5 and 5 hp engines as far as external parts.Mufflers, carb shrouds, choke controls are different.Same engine block size so many parts are the same.Want a good laugh?Look at the price they have on the engine pulley.I wouldn't pay much more than that for a whole 521.

Thanks Mike and 43128 that helps a lot! If that 3521 is still up I may take it just for the non rusty cosmetic parts--handle bars, wheels etc.

The wheel drive parts are valuable in that some of the bushings/bearings are getting hard to find and very pricey when you do.

You could just swap the engines
