You should be able to see Briggs bowls are symmetrical on the fill/botttom side. Tecumseh have a step/ridge/flat spot. The reason being is the floats run different and need to have the same bowl configuration to operate correctly.

Most OEM Tecumseh carb bowls say Tecumseh power products on them or on the older one's, Lauson Power Products on the bottom of the bowl. Briggs bowls don't say anything, so you should be able to separate 90% of them just by looking at the bowls for the branding, the rest, Briggs bowls are rounded at the bottom, Tecumseh bowls all have a spot recessed for the float so you will be able to tell them all apart by a quick glance, even aftermarket carbs have that recess in the bowl for the float. The gaskets are not the same and a Briggs carb wont work on a Tecumseh engine and vise versa.
