Rebuilt my MTD machine

Last summer I did a transmission conversion project on a Craftsman machine (see that here: )

This summer I got around to fixing up my 10 year old MTD machine that had become butt ugly but has been working just great. The paint on it was flaking off in large pieces and I also wanted to switch from those nasty single stamped-plate augers to the ribbon augers that I recovered from the same machine that I got the transmission from in that project above. Two of the six plate augers had broken off their hubs and I had rewelded them on with more or less success in mid winter. This is the only pic of it that I have in it's previous shape:

After dismantling everything to get to the bare bucket, I used a sanding disk on a angle grinder to clean off a good part of the rust.

It also got new belts and friction disk, new impeller bearing, and new skids. I also added steel reinforcement strips along the bottom sides of the bucket to prevent the front corners from curling inwards due to the somewhat thin sheet metal the sides are made of. I forgot to take a pic of those strips but I will add one later.

All done and reassembled this past Saturday:

Makes for a much better fleet photo now!
