OFF warranty not transferable, only original owner

A neighbor bought a MTD Bolens snowblower from a friend. It was bought Jan 2016, he bought it from him Dec 2016. In 15 degree weather he brings it to me today? because it doesn't move and snow is coming this weekend. It is a low end machine with one speed using a bail to engage the forward motion as a lawnmower has. I discovered the transmission is bad on it.

I called MTD saying I was him and told them I bought it from a neighbor that moved to Florida.

That's when I was told the warranty is only good for the original purchaser even if you have a receipt. Of course I expected the warranty to travel with the machine.

That's too bad. Does he have the receipt? Can he pretend to be the original owner?

Whatever it takes to wiggle out of a warranty claim. That's why warranties are pretty much useless sales gimmicks.

Depends on the company. Also, consumers really abuse warrantee claims. Goes both ways.

Spell check inserted OFF Warranty instead of MTD Warranty.
