I have only run my Predator 212cc (Chonda) for a couple of years on my Toro 521.

The only problem that I have noticed is at WOT the engine stalled out after a while. I did the fuel vent modification that was described on here and that seems to have resolved the stalling issue.

I noticed the engine was a little whimpy without the re-jetting / mod to the carb. I did that as well, reaming the main jet to about 0.030" vs. the stock 0.028"

The engine is about a 3-pull start

I did a cylinder leak test recently . . . so a 2-3 year old engine . . . I got about 2% leak, which is amazing for a $100 engine. . I think that speaks to the quality of the engine and its overall longevity.

In summary, I think it is a better engine than the $100 price tag would indicate.

i have done many repowers for customers. they are great cheap reliable engines. only downside is they are jetted pretty lean from the factory but what engine isnt these days, and iits only a 10 minute job to drop the bowl and ream out the jet. i also have a predator 420cc on my ariens 924044 thats on its 3rd season now, bump of the key and she roars to life. i have that one jetted rich and running at 4200 rpm with no issues whatsoever

I have been using the Honda clones for about twenty years on my Cranberry farm. I've used all three generations that Harbor Freight offered....the red WEN's, the blue Greyhounds, and now the black Predators. I started repowering old cranberry harvesters with the WEN's in around 1998. I did around a dozen for myself and others with no issues to this time. I've repowered 2 Jari mowers, I bought two 2inch water pumps that have the Chondra about twenty years ago..one for a spare because during harvest it was necessary ....I haven't touched the spare yet. The other runs perfectly,, except the shutoff switch broke, so I shut it off with the choke. I've repowered several log splitters with them...and my personal blower is an ST 824 that I picked up on the side of the road with a Tecumseh that the rod came out the side. I put a used WEN motor on it in 2003 and have used it every year since with no issues, except running on partial choke cause it ran lean. Last year I changed the oil for the first time, put an NKG plug in it,went through the trannie service, put an adjustable main jet ,tire chains , impeller kit,and taller chute on it. It's never let me down or acted up. I've swapped over at least a dozen or more Predators ,WEN's or Greyhounds in the last three years on blowers, and the buyers love them. When I first started using them I was thinking that they might be throwaway engines at that price, but I have four Honda's that run side by side with the Chondra's during harvest, and I see no difference. I had a lot of "emergency "spare engines that I kept to swap out for when one failed, but none ever did, so I put them on snowblowers finally.

my 208 cc chonda is on its third winter, and it doesnt miss a beat. great power, quiet, smooth running at any rpm and if it doesnt start on the second pull, its user error. ie me not putting the kill switch to the run position.

I am on my second winter with a 212 Predator on a 1984 Toro 521. I put the adjustable high speed jet and have done the gas tank vent mod. This engine has started with 1 pull since the day I took it out of the box. This has been the best $100 I have ever spent. So far this engine has been perfect.

Aweful? They are actually pretty good. I've repowered a snowblower, log splitter, and lawn vacuum. Good motor.

I've done 30+ retrofits in 5 years with the 212cc, had only one stuck float out of the box. All have performed flawlessly, cannot find a better deal for the money.

I am on my 4th season of my Preditor repower. Did the main jet upgrade and just changed the spark plug for the first time. It does take about 7 or 8 pulls to start it should it sit for a long time. Otherwise starts on 1-3 pulls. I run it hard at times and it has done well.
