Many Thanks!

I just wanted to send a note of thanks to everyone on this great blog who helped me figure out how to get my machine up and running again. About a month ago I had a no start. The electric start crapped out too. Then the pull rope shredded to nothing. Also a bad gas cap. A broken fuel line. The muffler bracket falling off. A fouled plug. Gunk in the carb etc. etc. Things were looking pretty grim. Then I found this place. Step by step I was given pointers by kind people on how to get everything back in order and now it's running like a top. Today was the final piece of the puzzle - a new electric start. One touch and VROOM! Who knows? The old dragon might breathe fire for another 20 years.

You pessimist. Any of these older machines that can't do another 40 years with proper maintenance is an exception to the rule
Get a good machine and maintain it and it likely will outlive most of us.
Admittedly some things will age out, but hopefully every one is replaceable, and again that's just maintenance.
