Black sludge or oil from head

On my recently acquired bolens snowblower, I found That the cylinder head was leaking black sludge or liquid from The head gasket. The compression feels fine and it still starts up and runs fine but is it a head gasket leak?

Yes, it looks like a head gasket blown.

Why don't you see if the head bolts are loose?? Do you have a torque wrench?? Looks like oil creeping up that head bolt, possibly not tight enough. Not saying there isn't head gasket damage, but if it's running and starting fine, tackle that job in the spring.

I noticed that head bolt was loose when I was looking at it but it wasn’t too loose. I don’t have a torque wrench so I just snugged it down. I’ll clean the stuff off tomorrow and see if it still does it.
