Honda HS724 engine swap

Hey all I just picked up a mint condition used Honda HS724. I wanted the HS928 but having two vehicles parked in the garage would mean pulling a vehicle out to get the snowblower out.

Is it possible to swap a GX270 onto the HS724? If so would this cause stress on any other components?

Thanks!

Garage
Kwik, check my Garage, I use a HS928 with a hs724 bucket asm attached, which I have labeled as aHS924.

But you want to just attached the motor. First off the pulley shaft is a 1 "ish higher so I used a 2 " longer auger belt. The mounting holes for the engine are also different but I'm sure you could adapt it. I waited until I found a reasonable condition and price on a complete HS928 , attached my 24 " bucket to it and attached the 28 " bucket to a HS1132 tractor asm I had kicking around. Took me awhile to find the 928 as I wanted the on board 12 volt version..

I swapped a GX390 on my HSS928. Unfortunately it’s not the same as an HS engine swap. The HSS swap is actually easier. Still it’s very do-able. The extra power on a 24” bucket is inconsequential.

If you are willing to spend a little more, an HS928 engine bed will make bolting up the engine very simple. Otherwise your drilling new holes.

You’ll need the 928 pulley and very likely the belts as well. You can probably just bend the belt stays out a bit and reuse them as well. Much of it will be trial and error.

To those with a 724, any issues with the dreaded EOD? Debating buying a 928 for that reason only

It wont hurt the auger transmission or the hydro transmission. You might have to do a little bit of refitting but other than that, it wont hurt anything else. Honda's are built tough enough to handle it. Remember, it is a "Honda" not an Areins or some cheapo MTD machine, or a Toro or Husky or some other cheapo machine. Thats why you pay the extra bucks for a Honda.
