Ariens Wheel Bolt-Question

This afternoon I was preparing my Ariens 920014 for summer storage when I notices both axle's had the wheel bolts in the furthest slot on the axle. The hole that that the bolt is not in, in the picture. In the manual it states that you can have one wheel spin free and the other in the the inner most hole. This blower was brand new last year so it has run a whole season with the wheels in this position. My question is will this cause any sort of damage to the drive gears or friction disk? Id didn't notice any issues using it this year, but I did notice a quite a bit of play on the axles on the inner part of the shaft. I took the bottom pan off and inspected the gears and there doesn't seem to be any damage.

Thanks!

Garage
No damage either way, Guaranteed!

With one wheel running free, that is let the wheel stay where it is, do not move the wheel along the axle, put the pin in the outside hole, you will find less traction and the snowblower will pull to the right, towards the side that is not adjustable.

Thanks!

I guess what I was trying to say is that the bolt was threw the tire and the axle on the outside hole, so neither wheels were spinning free.

That's normal when you need traction. About the only downside of the outer hole is that on some blowers (my old Toro for instance), it can make the track wider than the bucket . . . . Otherwise, it's the same as any other solid axle blower out there, and can't put any strain onthe drive *because* the axle is solid - any dragging/sliding/skidding is seen by the wheels and axle only.

Here I'm thinking there might be some damage to the drive components.

Did a short write up, with photos, will post later . I'd be wary of the axle sliding Left / Right and not centering the Axle Drive Sprocket on the chain. My NOMA sheared sprocket bolts, due to lateral axle movement .
