My thinking is that .....if you can't be courteous with a reply, then don't ask.

Like Tommy Lee Jones ( Woodrow F Call) said in the first Lonesome Dove Series...." I hate rude behavior in a man....I won't tolerate it."
It's really simple....acknowledge that someone actually took the time out of their day......to help YOU.

A lot of forums are like that, it is so frustrating for people that take helping people seriously. I'm on Trax forum and the other day I researched a question for a member for 3 hours before I could reply with a knowledgeable answer only to hear crickets for ever after. It's like people think we are here 24/7 with all the answers instantaneously and we make no mistakes. I like helping people, I guess it's my demon.

Some of the ones that don't answer with a thank you for the help they've received may be some of the same people that think they should almost immediately get an answer to their questions. If they don't hear back within a couple of hours, they give up or go somewhere else trying to find answers. Of course, that means they didn't see the answer so they wouldn't be able to acknowledge them.

To quote somebody who's name I cannot recall, "I love the human race, it's the people I cannot stand."

Work fascinates me.
I can watch somebody work for hours...

I agree, however it's our new society that has made a great many people into "me first!" kind of thinkers. And "me first" also translates into "zero patience".......as in "I shouldn't have to wait!" to get my answers.
