whats it worth thread

I was looking on line and an older Simplicity 860 popped up for about $70 the ad says it runs, but needs carb work. I remember when I bought mine I got it for around $300. Think it would be worth it if I could get it running?

Lots of unknowns.. General condition of machine both mechanical and cosmetic. If the scraper bar and shoes are in good condition it tells me something. It tells me either the machine has not seen much use or whoever owned it took the time to properly adjust these items. That being the case it would probably not be a bad deal. Watch this vid and make up your mind.

how old is a snowblower like this? ads almost always underestimate the work it needs. think about it. if all it needed was a carb cleaning or even a new cheap chinese clone carb, don't you think the owner would do that? maybe it's true and that is all it needs but that would be the exception.

donyboy's video for checking out used blowers is very good. i would also ask , how long owned, receipts for past services/repairs , why selling? etc. $70 appears pretty cheap but if you can not repair it because it needs something major like an engine or tranny all it will be is an expensive lawn ornament or extra costs for dump fees.

good luck and check back here in what you find out.
