Looking at JD 1032

Hi all thanks for being here and for your experience .
Im looking at a olsed John Deer 1032. They said they dont know how old it is, but say it runs very well. I was told it was a 15 H P engine.
So my questions to you all are, is this known as a good machine ? Is there anything i should look at when i go see it ?
There asking 300.00 Canadian , seems like a fair price .
Thanks in advance for your help

Unless they have changed the engine it should be 10 hp, 32" cut, that is what the model designation refers to. Whether or not it is a "good" machine depends on who built it and when. Older JD built machines are pretty decent, newer outsourced JD machines are not so great. It is pretty cheap though if it works well.

really hard to say if it is a good deal or not without pics. i have seen people selling off big machines like that that they say all works good but you can clearly see issues with.

Right off the bat, needs some new tires instead of those turf tires, also you can tell its been stored outside.

To be honest, I have got better machines for free in my area, but I am not in Canada … I have no idea as to its condition, but I would imagine its going to need some parts and time just to get it in operating condition, let alone it will take a bit of work/time to get it looking good as well.

There are many of us on here with the same machine. This machine was made in the late 70s & early 80s. It is one of only a few machines of real quality, aka, cast iron gear box, super thick auger, 16" auger, 12" impeller, not another snowblower has an impeller this thick! None! It's a 10hp Tecumseh. The down side to this machine are several. The chute is too short and needs to be cut and lengthen otherwise it doesn't throw snow very far, not far at all!!! The handlebars are weak and the metal will crack. It needs to be better supported as the machine is so heavy. The squeeze handle to propel the snowblower is on the bottom forcing you to squeeze it rather than holding it down, it's very tiring. Where are the chains? That model comes with chains though you do not need them.

1986 Ariens ST522, 5hp, 22"
1995 Murray Craftsman 10hp, 29" w. 12" impeller
A 1983 Real John Deere 10hp, 32" w. 12" impeller, 16" auger, 20" high front, cast iron gear box, chains
Noma 9hp, 27" w. 12" impeller
Noma 5hp, 24" w. 12" impeller, 20" high front
Gravely Convertible, 12hp Kohler cast iron, 26" width, 600 lbs of cast iron & steel, 2 speed impeller, 4 ground speeds
Dynamark 8hp, 26", 12" impeller, for sale
Several other 5hp, 8hp, several 2 cycle, all for sale

really hard to say. almost looks like the back of the lower bucket at the back may be patched up. would definitely want to look at that better especially since 1 skid is wore down to nothing and the other is missing.

If it were in my area, I would pass on it. Looks nice for a summer project.
