Question Do Hydro Units Move Faster Than Friction Disc in Reverse?

And if not can you adjust them ?

I find friction discs painfully slow in reverse and wondering if hydro would offer improvement.

I know on my ex husbands large dual hydrostatic lawnmowers he is able to adjust the reverse speed by taking away some of the forward top speed using the cables.

You can adjust disc drive blowers pretty easily.

Friction disc adjusted For quicker reverse? From this it sounds like not much gained.

How are the hydros in reverse are they also easily adjustable?

Can you take top speed off the hydro and speed up reverse with the hydro cable?

you can adjust a friction disk setup for a faster reverse. it just slows down the forward gears some. most of the time they keep the reverse gears on the safe side so you don't run yourself over. i know i rarely even use reverse with my machine. i only use forward gears and just pull it to back up.

Honda HSS Hydros are almost as fast in reverse as in forward... But infinitely adjustable with the lever on the fly!

Good to know. Thanks. I must reverse often between houses if wind is whipping there is only one direction to blow. Or turn and go back over the pass I just did which is usually faster than reversing but more work.

Just wondering if ground speed of hydro in reverse is better and easily adjustable with the hydro cable.

Missed part about reverse ground speed being almost as fast as forward on HSS. That would be very useful!!!!

Assuming Ariens hydros are similar in speed and control to HSS?

not

there are not too much difference in max reverse speed between my Yamaha hydro and my Simplicity with friction disc. Not sure who are faster actually

2014 Yamaha YT1070 (YT1028) 296cc 9.5 hp (at the cabin)

Strange that the Honda HSS moves almost as fast in reverse as forward and yet your unit is as slow as a friction disc

There’s no more Ariens hydros left at dealer here this season. Interested to know their reverse speed.

The Simplicity 1724 model appears to be a friction disc drive. In the specifications the forward speed is given as 5 mph and reverse as 2 mph: https://www.simplicitymfg.com/na/en_...w-blowers.html It appears that all those Pro models use the disc drive with wheels and ground speed is the same. I don't see a hydro or track drive model in the Simplicity line, but I don't know the brand.

Ariens used to give ground speed spec's for their disc drive and hydro units. I think I remember the same 5 mph forward and 2 mph reverse for the disc drive wheeled models and close for the hydro models. I cannot see Ariens having a machine capable of 5 mph in forward and reverse, it would be too dangerous with slippery footing and older users who are not as spry as they used to be. The discontinued Ariens disc drive with tracks was very slow with forward speed a little over 2 mph and reverse way less than 2 mph, so my dealer turned me away from that in 2015.
