looks like season is over ?

I looked at the extended forecast for NE Pa. next 2 weeks, some very cold days at mid-week, but next 2 weekends nothing but high 30's and RAIN each weekend. unless a cold front interrupts and turns it to snow, looks like we'll be into March without snow- and the season is basically over.
when it breaks I have to repair the Gilson 55012. I really wanted to use that machine in the one deep snow we got, but I was skunked. the augers stopped turning, appears to have sheared a key inside the auger gearbox.

In my experience a key failure in there would be a first. Please keep me posted.

I don't know what else it could be. the gearbox was assembled with new bearings, seals, oil. never even blew a flake of snow with it. I would start it up every so often and engage the tines and move it back/forth under the deck. then winter comes, I fire it up (this Briggs 8HP always was the best starting machine I own) engage the tines, and they don't turn. only the impeller turns...WTH ?? so the duties were passed to the little Snowbird here for the season...and the Gilson plow.

No sign of the season being over yet, around here..(Western NY)
the 10-day forecast shows the warmest day in a month for next Sunday!
at 36F (+2C), but then back to the 20's after that one day..

Its going to be below 20F, -7C, all of this coming week..

It looks to be a continuation of cold and snow for the foreseeable future..2 more weeks at least.

For the northern US and Canada:
March = the 5th, and last, month of winter.
April = half winter and half spring..the transitional month from winter into spring.
May = actual spring.

Our season doesn't seem to have ever started. I think "they" sent everything out east this year. So strange not to have piles of snow built up next to every road and parking lot. I'm a little concerned about the lack of moisture come spring. Sure don't have to worry about any flooding.

.
Make sure the windows are up before the snow plow goes by !!

you have lake effect which is your own little source of precip and snow, not relying storm fronts blowing in from out west. we occasionally get some Great Lakes lake effect if it blows down this way in a southeastern direction, but lately that is a rarity
don't get me wrong, we're going to have subzero temps tonite, -8 F., and throughout the week,
but no sign of precipitation to mate with the cold weather, to produce any funtime snowblowing snow...
then when the precip does move in, it warms up to 40F and just makes a mess of everything
then next day, back to freezing and it turns to a sheet of ice
excuse my French, but winters like this SUCK. I'd rather have snow from Nov. 1 to March 30 every year, like in the old days...
when I was a kid, you could sleigh ride, toboggan, or ride a snowmobile any day from Nov. 14 through March 1. It would snow repeatedly, an 18" snow pack would build up in the woods and trails, and would stay there all winter.
around 1980 we started getting winters that resembled what they get down south...more rain than snow. not every year, but some winters we got barely enough to warrant buying snowtires. I started buying all weather tires because snow treads were a waste of money.
when I was a kid, you needed studded snowtires, and change them every 2-3 years, or you were not going ANYWHERE
I miss those days...
barren Christmas is a real bummer...and rain in the winter, is like rain all day on your wedding day, pretty bad...
