Franken-blowers

Today a did a motor swap. Donor is a craftsman 9/24 tecumseh with 9in tunnel, bucket is separating from the mount and would require welding. Recipient is a power king 5/24 Tecumseh. Last project was a cub cadet 5/24 with Chinese eng (can't get parts for)that received a 8hp tecumseh. It's a nice frame, has Shute controls and power steering.

Mixing and matching parts can be a solution to many things. The Searsasaurus was built from pieces and parts from 3 different blowers but it provided me with the blower I wanted.

A 9in drum just doesn't seem to do much with a 9hp eng

Kinda like my Sears machine that I fitted with a MTD transmission. Looking forward to trying it out soon.

It is very satisfying to get a working snowblower out of 2 or more dead snowblowers

Is there a site somewhere that shows pictures of the various transmissions available for snowblowers?

I agree, mixing parts from different machines allows you to have the best of everything! That's what I love about this site - great minds and lots of awesome ideas!

Garage
Have a look at my garage if you want to see my Franken Blower. Had a few obstacles to overcome but didn't let it stop me. Very curious to see how the Troy Bilt limited slip differential performs on this setup.
If I like how the ariens 36" bucket works with the Troy Bilt tractor ..... my next creation will be same setup with a Briggs & Stratton 14HP V-twin I took from generator.

Some of the early Craftsmans (Murray) came with a Tecumseh multigear transmission. The one photo shows one but it does have some mount damage on it. The other is an earlier friction disc unit. There's alot of different designs, these are just two.
