    Ray tks for PM.
Should be a good summer. Am member of BMWOA and their big Rally will take place in Hamburg NY. Side note: Had a riding buddy who was a Motorcycle Policeman who lived in Homewood IL. His name was Richard Bielfeldt. We rode on several outings with Edelweiss Bike Tours both in North America and in Europe.

    Good Morning
May I begin this msg by indicating that I regret fact that I have to use the Visitors msg board to chat with you but as a Newbie cannot send you PM as that venue not available to meas forum rules per clue me to use that route until I have made 15 posts. Have contacted Administrator to discuss that drawback.

Have re assembled my 38080 and ALL IS FINE. WIll put it in storage and looking forward to its first test in December. Ralph. Have a great summer.

PS Have also told Administrator members should receive E-Mail when someone Posts reply to Thread they are party to. Posted Visitors msg on ts8169's msg board and got no response. It would seem that unless one Logs On to the Site one is not made aware of Action on Thread he is involved in

    Hi again

Dismantled 38080 and brought driveshaft to a friend who will repair back/ reverse plate. He said he will also drill a hole to insert a set screw to solidify plate on drive shaft and thereby get rid of wobble. Plan is to drill hole opposite side of holes used to insert bolt item 22 and thereby ensure plate is held in place more securely.

FYI. HAVE DOWNLOADED TORO/LAWNBOY 2 STAGE SNOWBLOWER SERVICE MANUAL. VERY GOOD TOOL FOR TORO NEWBIE LIKE ME.
BASED ON WHAT I READ THERE-IN WILL BE DISMANTLING THE 38080 AND PULLING OUT DRIVESHAFT TO ATTEMPT REPAIR TO REAR FRICTION DISC.
ALTHOUGH BOTH DRIVE SHAFT AND REAR FRICTION DISC STILL AVAILABLE NOT WILLING TO INVEST $250.00 PLUS SHIPPING COSTS ON NEW PARTS FOR A PROJECT VENTURE. WILL KEEP YOU POSTED. Ralph

    Hi again.
Have been surfing this site and if you want to see how Ariens tranny works pls go to Snowblowers by Brand and select Ariens then look for thread. Replacing friction disc on 1970 Ariens snowblower. There is a very good video on how it is done. You will note friction disc can move all the way to the other side of the friction plate and there by be able to move wheels forward or backwards without need of a second friction plate like we have on our 38080's. Sir
Would appear to me that contrary to Ariens Toro uses two friction discs to transmit power to wheels. A front disc for forward action and a disc at the back to permit backward/reverse movement. This is necessary because friction wheel does/cannot move to other side of front friction disc and therefore move in a backward/reverse movement/ motion. Because of that very important that friction wheel be positioned in dead centre of both discs. I believe the initial poster's front disc broke weld because of extended pressure from friction disc when in 1/2/3 gears. When I picked up the parts I had ordered was able to talk to mechanic who told me 38080 was a very good model but that the transmission was very finicky.
Because of play/wobble I describe in my previous msg I really think Reverse motion on my machine will be limited. Anxious to here from you as to play/movement on back disc of yr machine. Ralph

Pulled/removed belly pan/plate this morning and measured play/wobble on back disc plate. When bolt horizontal with wheel axle movement is 1/2 inch. Am sure this is not good news. May have to live with limited reverse. May have mentioned that I am an Ariens man and will go through a learning curve as regards Toro's way of doing/setting up things. Ralph
