G2784030 what gear case fluid?

27" 8HP 2-stage, purchased in 1997, still going strong. Took apart to find missing 2 nuts from impeller shaft bearing retainer, decided to do a few more things. What goes in the auger gear case? oil, grease, tranny fluid? I've seen a few different opinions.

Also FYI got quoted $30 to order new impeller shaft bearing at local yard tool repair shop, 3-5 days. Found one in stock at a local bearings/drives place for $4. LOL

just for fun, anyone know where I can get a user manual for this?

on Sears parts website I found a manual for a 1998 Noma G2794010/G2474010 that looks similar. You suppose I can just follow that for maintenance instructions?

In the manuals I have seen so far, they state that the gear case is lubed at the factory and shouldn't ever need additional/changed lube. Since mine is 22 years old, I figured it worth a look anyway. Should I open the port on top and use some kind of a "dipstick"?

I found a manual on Sears Parts for a Murray 627804X6A murray ultra 8hp, 27" snow thrower, no year, no image of the front page, Sears Chat Rep said it should be a good fit even for a 1997. He didn't have a year or an image either but I ordered it, small gamble for $5.
