High atop the Alleghenies

New member here, looking for info about used Honda snowblower parts for HS928: Specifically, the entire auger housing. After a number of years with my 400' gravel driveway, I bit the bullet and had it blacktopped. In the meantime, my housing looks like crap with a thousand tiny pinholes from gravel punctures. A new housing is 2/3 the cost of a new snowblower. I'd like to find a used housing in decent shape, for a few hundred $. My only other option that I see is to get some new skin welded around the impeller shaft area. Comments, anyone?

I would check with the local high school and ask about any vocational welding classes and offer to buy the steel to allow
the students to build a new cross auger housing and impeller housing for good practice.

The only decision would be whether to use 1/8" or 1/16" steel plate rolled to form it for the impeller diameter and 1/16" plate steel for the side weldments and the rest of the housing that would have to be bent/formed into shape. An auto shop class would be able to help with forming the cross auger housing prior to welding the impeller housing and cross auger housing together.

After they weld it all together they can attach new longer skids and then the autoshop class can paint it for you for practice.

Some good places to search would be older, established OPE repair shops. There are a few around that sometimes have "graveyards" that may have just what you are looking for. Patience is key. You may also want to advertise locally on the surrounding craigslists and facebook buy sell trade pages.

I gave up looking, I don't have months to find one. I just took it to my 'welder guy', and he said he can fix it, but since he works a regular j-o-b, and then does his other stuff besides, it may take him till Halloween or longer before I get it back- just hope I have time enough to get it together correctly and make her run before the sn## flies here in central Pa. high atop the Alleghenies.
