Hi Guys, I recently found a White 5.5hp snowblower. It started well and ran well for a few days. On the first day the rope broke and I repaired it but noticed that the rope was short. I was only getting 2-3 rotations out of it but regardless it started well. Today I cleaned the carb and painted it. I started it after the paint job and it ran for a few min and died. I thought it was bc of no gas. Later I tried to start it again and it wouldn't start for any reason. I checked the spark and even put gas directly into the carb and into the cylinder. I gave up after 4 hours and now I'm thinking it's the timing. The short rope could have thrown the timing off. What do u guys think? Any suggestions

Don't think the timing would be bad because of a short rope.

I have cleaned carbs before and this has happened. sometimes the needle is stuck and won't let gas flow. One time i put bowl on wrong and the float could not drop and gas would not flow. it seems like your problem started after you cleaned carb.

I would try looking at that from the beginning. also see if carb is sealed tight to cylinder and gasket is good.

it's probably something simple .

well, the machine should run for a few seconds if you spray starting fluid into the intake especially using the electric start. if it does and then stall then you know you have a fuel delivery problem such as a clogged fuel line, a clogged pick up tube, or the float is sticking . etc.

that is assuming you have strong spark.

did you take carburetor off? does it make a good seal?

I love it when a plan works.

When you use the starter rope to start it you should pull the rope until the piston is near the top of the stroke to make it easier to pull. The exhaust valve will have already begun to open and you will be pulling the rope as the piston is going downward into the full exhaust portion of the piston stroke.
