Re-power Toro Powermax 828

I bought it new in '00 or '01 and then about 4 yrs ago seized the engine (my fault).

This looks like a smokin' deal, a little more power than the original 8HP you had.

I have been checking out all the charts and most if not all of those new old stock Briggs motors have up and flown the coop might just have to go the Harbor Freight route on that 1.

Is that 305 from OPE not a NOS engine? It's in stock and available to buy today...

The link kicks over to another thread here. I have no clue what outfit is selling it.

Anyone have experience with this one?

LCT291-SB-1ES-SD

This place appears to also have the aforementioned B&S. (I have no relation to this site)

There's a small engine guy near me who I called a few weeks back, and he swears by LCT in snow applications. I'm a bit uneasy due to the higher crankshaft location, as I really want to re-use as many of the old parts as possible. Having to fabricate a new belt guard probably isn't a huge deal, but if I don't have to then I won't.

May I suggest a good used Honda GX270, GX340 or GX390 engines as well (much better if they came out of a snowblower).
