Predator 212 question

Hello all! I thank you all in advance for the advice. Today I swapped the famed 212 onto my 70 ariens. It runs fine, goes forward and backward just fine. The only thing that seems off is its not throwing snow like it used to. It very well could be, however with it being WAY quieter than before my perception could be off. Any advice? It drives like it used to. I Plan on doing an impeller kit, because theres almost an inch of room in there! Thanks!

sounds like the reduced noise is throwing off your perception

With an inch of gap removed it will throw much better

Is the 212 running at the proper RPM? Are you using the original pulley? If the belt isn't slipping, and the engine RPM and pulley haven't changed, then it's tough to think of something that would change throwing performance.

Almost an inch? Wow, that is a big gap. An impeller kit should be a big help.

I believe the 212 Preditor is top spec'ed at 3800 RPM. Do you have a Tac to confirm you have the high speed set to spec.?

Mine was set at about 3600 from the factory and never measured it until last year. I now have mine set to about 3800. Some on Here have theirs set even higher. There were some posts on this. If my memory is correct people with experience using these engines will run them a little over 4000rpm.

If all you changed is the engine then the Speed is the only variable that could be off.

More rpm's can be achieved by turning the throttle limit screw out. A tachometer should be used to verify if its actually turning slow and what its adjusted to afterward.

threads of the screw showing here:
