Tecumseh lh318sa replacement

Hi Folks!

I've done some pretty thorough searching but I still can't find any leads on a replacement for my Ariens 926le 926001.

It has the original Tecumseh lh318sa engine, which is running fine but bogs down more then I think it should. I'm just curious as to what is out there for replacements.

Side note, I do have a few other threads regarding the bogging issue. I have replaced the carb, and have clean fuel. Plug is new too. Throttle opens all the way when it needs too. Compression is at 80psi with electric cold start.

Again, just curious about other engines. However any other ideas about the bogging issue would be great. I did have a ariens 724 form around 2001. I don't recall it ever bogging down like this one. I traded up for the 926 due to anew house with a much longer driveway.

Thanks

Your compression seems too low. Anyone else feel that way ?

My 318cc OHV Tecumseh gave 80 psi with the electric starter. I'd just gone through and checked the bore, replaced the head gasket, and adjusted the valves. So it doesn't seem bad to me, with my limited experience.

Hi Folks

I'm still looking for recommendations for a replacement engine. Looks like I can't get the original Tecumseh lh318sa.

Thanks!

You might be able to get a used Tecumseh 8hp for cheap. They were used on a ton of machines. Might even be cheaper to buy a junky machine with a good engine, than just an engine.

If you want new, the Predator engines are popular for re-powering. Though the $100 212cc might be a step down in power. The 301cc (?) Predator will be substantially more powerful, but is over $200, I think.

Thanks. Are the predator engines reliable? I'll look into them. My Tecumseh is 9hp 312cc

Yes - those are very good engines really. Can't beat 'em for the price.
