Smart People of the Internet, your thoughts on an Engine Swap ST824?

I blew the rod in my engine during the storm yesterday... I heard the ping ping and knew I should have stopped right then and there but said to myself, just one more pass and I am done... well.... now, I am done... as the rod broke through the sidewall of the engine....

I have an Ariens 924050 028860 which has engine HM80 155128F

I found a used 924082 048855 which has engine HMSK80 155526S with a busted Auger/Gearcase

It looks like I can't just swap the 24" blower units, but I may be able to swap the engines, where the engine sheave is the same size.......

When it comes to engines, I know just enough to be dangerous, curious to learn if this is as simple as it sounds inside my head....

I'd say 99% likely the answer is "yes". HM80 and HMSK80 are pretty much the same engine - the "SK" bit means "snow king" which is an engine specifically made for snowblower applications.

~1994 Ariens 924084 (ST1032) "papa bear": restored, re-engined, real nice!
1991 Ariens 924050 (ST824) "mama bear"
Toro PowerCurve 1800 "baby bear"

Be alert! America needs more lerts.

I like the idea of a new engine... I see other posts tied to the predator, it seems the difference in HP isn't an issue... and the only key difference is the shaft....

That just might be the way to go...

The pulley on the Predator is 3/4", the Tecumseh 8hp is 1". You'll have to get a new pulley for the Predator.

Yes, thank you for the note, I am reading through the forum and found the ebay link to the shaft sleeve.... as well as a link to a Super Coupon that brings the Predator engine down to $99 like you said....

You have to wonder... how they can assemble an engine... ship it across the world... stock it in the store for $99....

Are you sure that the buckets don't interchange?

I've picked up a 924050 for parts before:

https://www.snowblowerforum.com/foru...57-post28.html

I've also done a 212cc swap on a 924082:

https://www.snowblowerforum.com/foru...545-post1.html

The part numbers may be different, but I think they may be interchangeable.
