B & S Repower Question

Hello to all,

I see that the HF Predator 212 is the engine of choice for repowers. I have a 1991 model MTD 5/24 track machine with the Tecumseh dual shaft engine that is low on power and ready for a upgrade. I've had this machine since new and taken very good care of it and love the tracks. I'm not interested in spending the $$ for a new tracked machine.

So my question is has anyone on this site repowered with the B&S dual shaft 11.5tq winter engine ? And if so any issues?

Best to Find another double shaft engine for an easy bolt in application. Predator is do-able, but not suggested for a newbie.

Or maybe find a school that has a small engine class where someone would rebuild it for your this summer if you don't have the skills or time to mess with it.

My advise is to search for a used MTD with tranny problem or bucket issue and do a motor swap....or......pull the head and cover of the old girl and do rings and lap the valves.....Like Homer Simpson is famous for saying....." If something is hard to do....it's just not worth doing!"

Toro 721-QZR (38743) 2015 (Hemi Predator Power)
Toro (51984) Hand Held Blower (For the light stuff)

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Update: I found a used Tecumseh 8hp engine locally that will be direct replacement and upgrade the hp to boot. I put a new carb on it and it runs good with no smoke or funny noises. Will install this summer when I do a complete blower chassis renew. Thanks for the suggestions.
