Repower single output with dual output?

Hello ladies and gentlemen!

I need to replaced an HM50 single output shaft on a Toro 5/21. A donor engine I have for a potential swap is an HM50 DUAL output off a Dynamark (yikes!) 5/21. Is it possible to accomplish this by simply swapping out the camshaft and the side cover from a/the single output shaft engine?

Seems like an easy remedy. I did not see a previous post concerning this endeavor. Thought I'd ask around before I crack open engine cases.

Thank you SBF!
Scott

Yes but make sure you have a new gasket for the case or may end up with leaks.

Sno-Tek Modded, 15"X-Track tires (Now has same X-Track tires but 13"x4" for better fit), 254cc engine LED light and hand warmers.
Snapper 6/22 sold but not forgotten. Was my first.
Ariens ST1027LE workhorse and going strong.
New 2017 Ariens Deluxe completely rebuilt after losing a fight with a forklift.

Take a Whizzer Wheel, and cut the Unneeded PTO. Done.

why don't you just swap out main pulleys and just leave the second cam pulley alone? you don't have to use it. i would even recommend looking at a predator engine. i find the 5hp engines a bit gutless.

I thought about cutting off the second output shaft but I feel that I am better than that. If the shaft fits under the belt cover I may very well just let it be. All good suggestions. Everything is in the garage now. My plans are to dig in tomorrow and see what develops. Thanks again everyone!

Dual shaft motors in good running condition are hard to find and worth a premium. I would list it for sale and use the proceeds to buy a HF Predator, OR, remove the cam pulley if in the way and use it as is. Don't cut it off.

Toro (51984) Hand Held Blower (For the light stuff)

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

I hear ya, Grunt. I can't cut it off. There's no room in my garage for a HF Predator either. I think I have another cam and side cover I can swap in place of the dual output.

how is there no room? it is just an engine and once it is on the snowblower it takes up no more room than the old engine that was on the snowblower. sell off your old engines and you get all your space back and maybe even break even on the swap selling off the dual shaft engine and the old engine.

i just feel like you would really be wasting time tossing another 5hp techumseh. they just seem really gutless. got one on my a 23" machine at my sisters place and while it tries it hardest it just isn't enough. only thing stopping me from doing a engine swap on it is the fact it is one of those silly machines with the cam pulley that drives the wheels.

I had 2 922 series Ariens with Double Shaft Engines(5 and 6hp). I Couldn't Sell the Engines, so I gave the Snowblowers Away. That's How Much those Engines are Worth. Larger, 8hp and up are a Different Story. Yesterday I Sold an 8.5hp Double shaft engine from an Ariens 8524.
