Craftsman 536.881550

Hi all.

The briggs and stratton motor on my snowblower is shot. Im looking for a replacement and was just seeking some general advice. Ive found to models i think would work:

and

it looks like they are both appropriate, the first link has one with a handle that would be easier to pull with gloves, but thats not a huge deal. Its also a little bigger, but 100$ more. The second link is a similar size to the OE engine.

what would you do?

Welcome to the forum Jjg

I'd go with the Predator from Harbor Freight.

This B&S ?? :

Harbor Freight Predator.
6.5 HP (212cc) OHV Horizontal Shaft Gas Engine EPA

Those big winter glove rope handles are easily added to any engine.

My machine Craftsman Mdl#536.887750, engine seized last Nov 2014 and I replaced with a replacement snow blower B&S OEM 7.75HP from Jack's Small Engine. I had the weather against me, a long winter ahead of me and wasn't about to re-engineer with a Predator in semi arctic conditions. Did a post on it.

I have to 2nd, on a Predator. Their $100, right now. And if your original engine has a 3/4dia shaft. It will be an easy swap. Get one of their Micro drill bits, and open up the jet to .030, before you mount it and your ready to go. It will be an easy swap and cheaper in the long run.

Yes that was one of the B&S i was looking at. I've read some really bad reviews of predator engines, that was my first idea when I saw them, but I was put off by some terrible reviews.

I don't have a predator powered anything so I can't speak from personal experience but if you look around here you will see it's the engine of choice for most re-powers and the guys that have done them seem to be very happy with the outcome.

Were did you read the really bad reviews of the Predator engines? Please post a link showing all these bad reviews. Please share the bad reviews that you were put off by. I own 3 of these Predator 212cc engines and all 3 of them work great. They start in 1 to 2 pulls of the recoil every time and are quiet and powerful smooth running engines. Here it is right from Harbor Freight's website. The Predator 212cc has a 4.5 review out of 5.
