Converting a 2 shaft machine into a 1 shaft idea

im new to snow blowers but after looking inside my 2.7 horse 20 inch Ariens I observed that you could always buy sprockets for the shaft and drive and use chains instead of gears. Gears reverse direction while chains transfer power in the same direction. Of course you would have to use smaller sprockets of the same ratio so that the teeth dont mesh. You could also drill a hole to the side of the box to fit an idler or tensioner. To solve the issue of the doubling of speed you would need to buy a pulley larger in diameter of the original camshaft pulley and an appropriate belt.

If you find that you need to drastically change the final drive ratio in order to fit the sprockets and chain tensioner, you can compensate by increasing input shaft speed via a smaller diameter drive belt pulley.

This seems easier than making any modification to the engine and would require almost no machining
