I did nothing to my predator

I understand the re jetting for cold air, and I can see how linkage could get iced. That said, I ran my 68 ariens with 212cc predator in 20 degrees while snow was falling. The thing kicked ass! I can see building a box to keep ice out of linkage and maybe heat intake. Am I the lucky one who runs this engine right out the box with zero mods?

How cold it is doesn't matter nearly as much as humid it is. If the air is cold and damp the carb will ice up without a heater box, if it's cold and dry it may not.

Yes sir, you are spot on regarding cold and damp. I became the proud owner of my first snowblower back in 1983 when I moved to Minneapolis. 11" of snow on day 1 of snow storm and 12" on day 2. I ran to the local dealer and bought the Lawnboy name brand. Logic was they make great lawnmowers they must make great single stage snow throwers. Nope, that Lawnboy iced up like crazy. I took it back and bought the Honda HS35 which I have used since then.

Gotcha. Thanks fellas, makes sense. Lately it's been dry cold snow which is not the norm for my local. Once the materials present themselves I will build a box. Ice built up around the gas cap and the blower itself, so I can see how it could get into the linkage.

I ran mine all last winter with zero issues. Most storms were warmer; probably similar to what you usually get in Long Island. I had my first issues this winter. I think my carb was freezing up due to the much colder storms we had this year. I built a heater box and the problem went away.

I did nothing to my predator-image.jpgIt's rough, but it did the job. It was a last minute "piece of art" the day before one of the bigger storms.

The back side of the box that you can't see, where the engine controls are, is open.

Proof of concept is what I call that fabrication. If it works well you can make a second to make it pretty.
